The main uses of dicumyl peroxide (DCP) include as a vulcanizing agent for natural rubber and synthetic rubber, an initiator for polymerization, and a crosslinking agent for polyethylene resins.
DCP is particularly widely used in the rubber industry. It can not only improve the vulcanization speed of rubber, but also significantly enhance the physical properties of rubber products, such as strength and durability. In addition, DCP is also used as a crosslinking agent for cable insulation materials. This crosslinked polyethylene not only has excellent insulation and processing properties, but also improves the heat resistance of the material. Specifically, 2.4 parts of DCP is used as a vulcanizing agent in 100 parts of polyethylene, which can improve the heat resistance and weather resistance of the product.

Another important application of DCP is in the production of ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer (EVA) foam materials, which can form fine uniform cells in the material, thereby improving the heat resistance and weather resistance of the product. In addition, DCP is also used as a curing crosslinking agent for unsaturated polyester and a regulator for the melt index of polypropylene. It is widely used in wire and cable, EPS, shoe making, flame retardant coatings and other industries.

DCP is a strong oxidant, insoluble in water, but soluble in ethanol, acetic acid, benzene and petroleum ether. These physical and chemical properties make it have unique advantages in specific industrial applications. Due to its important industrial value, DCP is included in the "List of Explosive Hazardous Chemicals" and is subject to corresponding control.
